Shorts Appropriate

So part of getting older means realizing a few things you used to wear aren't exactly going to work in your life anymore.

One of those things is
shorts.

Or, I should clarify,
length of shorts.

Now, up until recently,
I have always been the chick who likes to wear shorts shorter than I should.
I am seriously lacking in the bootay region (as a matter a fact, my ass as never come close to being described as a bootay...),
so wearing short shorts was never really an issue.
No inappropriate butt bulge in sight.
High five...to me...

That was until I had my babies,
and I started paying attention to the amount of time I spend during my day bending over to pick up my kids.
Cue: inappropriate butt bulge.
AND the inspiration behind this post.

Now, to discuss the various short lengths,
and their appropriateness.

Level 1:

unknown Pinterest photo
If your butt looks like this when you bend over,
or even worse,
when you are standing,
I don't care how old you are.
NO.
No No No.
Nooooooo.
This is not ok.
You'll have passerbys placing bets to whether you are a stripper or a hooker,
and if you are neither...
well, my dear...
that is a situation I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Level 2:
Pinterest
This is usually the level of shortness I stick to,
and even this is fairly short.
I have to stop and ask myself sometimes,
do most women in their late 20s with children wear shorts this short?
And the answer is...
I don't really care.
Until my butt and upper legs starts looking like it got hit with a bag of nickels,
I'm going to keep wearing shorts like this.
Shazaam.

Level 3:
Pinterest
This level is usually appropriate for anyone.
And its probably the length I should consider.
Even if you have a JLo behind,
these should work for you.
These allow those who like to dress more appropriate than myself
look sexy and classy.
All at the same time.
Win. Win.

Level 4:
manrepeller.com
The Bermuda.
The universally flattering short length.
I seriously have yet to see any woman who does not look good in Bermuda shorts.
If you are not as daring,
but are facing 100 degree weather like I have been for the last two weeks,
these are your go-to shorts.

I have been literally foaming at the mouth for some lace shorts...
These are kinda sorta a BIG DEAL right now,
and I am on the hunt for some reasonably priced,
and not too short,
lace shorts.
Lace shorts can be paired with a multitude of tops, shoes, etc,
but the key to wearing lace shorts,
at least if they are white,
is to have them rest a little bit longer on your leg.
That takes away the risk of diaper drama.

I don't know about you guys,
but
I don't ever want to be mistaken for wearing a diaper in public.

10 Things I'm Stoked About: Colored Denim

And you thought I forgot.

Or had completely abandoned my previous quest,
as I typically do.

This time, I kept at it.

So the NEXT thing on my list of things I'm stoked about is...

COLORED. DENIM.

Boom.
See what I did there?

So I take it by now you have heard about this trend more times than you care to mention.

I have only recently become a huge junkie for it,
so much so that I have been parading 4 different types of colored denim around Alabama much to the delight (or wonder) of the local populace.

Learn to love it, Southerners.

While I haven't branched out from the pink shades (I currently own peach, pink, coral shades).
There are so many awesome options out there.

10 Things I'm Stoked About: Peep Toes and Polish

So I kinda lied to you all.
Not a big one.
However, I told you that this new series would be a Tuesday thing.
And I changed my mind.
I'm too excited about everything for SPRING(!), so I didn't want to wait to talk about them.

Anyway,
on to the topic of today's post.
The next thing I'm stoked about for Spring is

10 Things I'm Stoked about: Print

So I'm starting a new Tuesday series (this one I will actually stick with!)
titled
"10 Things I'm Stoked about".
This week:
Print

My inspiration behind this is the adorable character from Glee,
Emma Pillsbury.

Cute as a button, this little OCD afflicted phenom is the main reason I watch Glee.
I love checking out the unique, cohesive, and adorable wardrobe choices she comes up with.
What a cute little button.

She also wears print like no other.

I have been obsessed ever since I saw her wear that printed top with the orange pencil skirt.
I'm even more excited now that EVERYONE seems to be recognizing the awesomeness that is printed tops, dresses, etc.

Easter Sunday

So I have been admittedly depressed lately.
I had originally thought it was the result of the anticipation related to my daughter's upcoming cardiologist check-up, but since that appointment has come and gone (with her coming away from it doing amazing!!), I still feel...
Sad.
So, I immediately got down to business in trying to remedy this problem.
One of my first theories was the weather.
Fall/Winter makes me sad.
There is no sun. No life. No excuse to paint my toenails because nobody will see them.
It tends to be a depressing time.
However, today it is in the 70s, is lovely out...took a walk with my girls...
And I'm still down in the dumps.
So I tried doing some art, a former (and current) passion of mine that usually lifts my spirits.

Please excuse the painted over outlet cover...we just painted...
This boosted my spirits, and inspired me to start doing my artwork again,
but again...the thrill subsided and I felt incomplete again.

Then I hopped onto the internet while my older daughter was napping and my younger one crawled all over my bedroom, exploring everything now that she is MOBILE (baby proofing still needs to happen).
I thought purchasing a pair of mint skinnies would help.

Buy me!

No...still did not work....
Mood---still not lifted.

Then I happened across a new post my friend Melissa made on her inspirational blog
And then I realized something.
I miss my friends.
Since moving to Alabama while my husband is on recruiting duty, I have been extremely lonely.
Being with my daughters all day is a joy, but there are times where you need to be with your girls...
And I have no "girls" here.
That is exactly what I miss.
I miss the huge population of stay at home moms, who were always up for a weekday brunch, a night time Mexican dinner, or a play date at the park.
I had an amazing group of ladies that made deployments, field ops, and day to day stress bearable and fun.
Ladies...you know who you are...I miss you.

So, after reading Melissa's blog, I made a decision.
I would find a new church here in our new town.
I went to a wonderful church back at our former duty station, one that felt comfortable and like home.
I have made it my mission to find another one that makes me feel that wonderful.
And when I find it, I will join a small group.
I will find a new group of fabulous ladies.
And I will make this place feel more like home.

Church is MAJOR down here...as it rightfully should be. High five, Jesus!

Here is what I plan to wear on Easter Sunday.

Easter Sunday

Rare floral print dress, £45
Alexander McQueen blazer, £1,145
Dorothy Perkins heel wedge, $69
Chanel quilted bag, £3,725
Chanel chain jewelry, £485

Carolee glass earrings, $28
Sparkle sunglasses, $10

Yes, there is Chanel. And Alexander McQueen.
Two hot labels that I cannot afford currently (and greatly wish that I could).
However, I do have a white blazer. And some awesome gold wrist candy.
::sigh:: Chanel bag...we will meet someday...

I promise to get back to my quirky, upbeat posts.

Designer Spotlight: Alexander McQueen

Oh, Alexander McQueen.

What can I say that will truly do your magnificent work justice...
I think he was one of the most unique and passionate designers of our time.
He passed away too soon, but he left behind some of the most beautiful works of fashion I have ever seen.
Maybe I am a tab bit impartial,
but I love a man who can incorporate skulls and animal print into a high fashion line,
and still make it look undeniably chic.
Glamorous drama, gothic chic...
it just gets me going.
In a good way.
Buy this dress!
Buy this scarf!

Buy this ring!
Buy this coat!
Buy this clutch!
Buy these booties!

Oh...seriously...McQueen...
I have made it my mission to one day...own one of your beautiful pieces.
Such a true visionary, a brilliant talent...

He is greatly missed.

Do YOU love Alexander McQueen as much as me??

PS---Sorry for being MIA and scatterbrained this week...
Sick kids turn my brain to mush :-)

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day...
Mine was AWESOME...sorta.
Despite having two sick little babies, it was fun.
I got to enjoy a lunch date with my husband and 8 month old (SO rare that I get to see him in the daylight), and my older daughter was finally able to go back to school after battling an ear infection and sinus infection the week prior.

Here are a few images from my Valentine's Day yesterday.

I should explain the box that looked like V-Day threw up on it.
My older daughter, Savannah, was told by her teacher to make a mailbox that all of her classmates could place their Valentines to her in.
I initially planned to create a simple, cute box with a few necessary hearts, pinks, reds, and of course, some glitter.
However, when I reread her school's newsletter, in the fine print was a mention of these mailboxes being a competition, and the best one would receive a special prize.
Immediately, my competitive nature was turned up to 11.
Despite the fact that a competition amongst 3 and 4 year olds is completely ridiculous, I felt the need to win, no matter the cost.
Hence, the ridiculous, over-the-top box that has an altar built upon it.
I'm not sure if there was an actual winner, because when I picked her up, all of the kid's boxes had ribbons on them, BUT...if there would've been an overall winner...
Savannah's would have taken the victory.
Also, I should mention that the above orchids are from my husband.
If you haven't been able to determine from my odd posts,
I am a unique individual.
My husband gets this and decided that I needed a more unique flower arrangement than the traditional bouquet of roses.
He knows me so well and I totally dig it.

If I had planned ahead better, I would have worn this outfit below to our Valentine's lunch.

Valentine's Day

Since I didn't plan ahead,
I went with my standard leggings, gifted "do-me" boots, lace top, and a blazer.
So. Boring.

Oh well!

I hope you all had a WONDERFUL day of love,
whether it be with your significant other, a family member, friend, well-loved pet, or simply took a day to love yourself,
XOXO all around.

So, did YOU have a good day of love?

This calls for a Celebration

I don't normally post on weekends (with hubby working so much, they are typically strictly reserved for family time).
However, I was inspired, and motivated to make one small exception because.....
I finally have some blog followers.
OMG.
This couldn't have happened at a more perfect time either.
Here I was, getting discouraged (I know, I know, I have only been blogging for a month), and then a number of things happened.
First, I read this. Jen Ramos, THANK YOU. You helped put everything into perspective, and made me step back and realize "good things come to those who wait"...
So comes to my new motto:
Patience, Patience, Patience.
And what happened when I decided to keep at it and have patience?
I got my first follower.
Thanks to YOU, my motivation is up and moving.
The icing on the cake was when my friend Melissa (and fellow blogger) texted me, asking for my blog link.
And she started to follow it also.
And to top it all off and turn me into a big bowl of mush...
I checked my stats, and discovered I already have had 9 blog views TODAY.
I have just been a big ball of cheese ever since.
So, in honor of everything listed above, I broke my normal routine, and created a celebratory post to thank each and every one of you.

Lace Obsessed

I. Love. Lace.
From the intricate details to the endless outfit combinations, it just makes me excited to think about adding lace to my daily combinations.
What a beautiful option...

One of my favorite outfit combinations is leather and lace.
The mixture of the tough and girly fabrics makes me so excited.
This is probably why I have worn a lace piece with my leather jacket three times this week.
It's borderline obsessive.

If I was a Pirate

Shiver me timbers.
I am finally getting around to coming up with the perfect outfit to wear
for pillaging a village (or in my case, my local shopping center) for rum, gold, and whatever else that strikes my fancy.
Ahoy.

If I was a Pirate

Doesn't this outfit make you want to sail the seas in search of crazy amazing treasure?
Now, I just have to convince my husband to impersonate Jack Sparrow, and my fantasy will be complete.

What would you wear if YOU were a pirate?
